When Buckworth’s local pub closed, it was George Brown—a generous local farmer—who stepped in. In 1958, thanks to his donation of a building and materials, villagers transformed the space next to the Manor House into a clubhouse. What began as the home of Buckworth Cricket Club has grown into the beating heart of village life.
Though the final match was bowled in 1984 (blame the cows and Alconbury Sports & Social’s fancy flat pitch! And yes, they may have had running showers…), Alas the club lives on—now as a hub for social events, laughter, and village traditions.
