BCC in 1936

1936-01Here is a brief glimpse into Buckworth Cricket Club as it was in 1936, as revealed by the three pages of the accounts book for that year.

There were sixteen cricket-playing members, four of whom were under 16. Six of them shared the same surname, now immortalised in the name of one of the village’s four roads.

The annual subscription of 2 shillings (or 10p in post decimalisation money) in 1936 is estimated by an historical inflation calculator to be equal in value to about £6.20 today.
